INSTRUCTORS

Sarah Hill is offering a class in rug hooking that incorporates yarn into the project, so that students can learn about a new way to use the yarn fiber that so many vendors will be selling. She will provide instruction in how to hook so that students will be able to practice under the supervision of the teacher and have handouts that provide the information needed to finish the project at home. Additionally she will provide a list of recommended resources for the student to progress at home or with a local hooking guild. Sarah designs a new pillow top for each year of the Fall Fiber Festival.

Nan Crawford is a Virginia native and a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Natural materials inspire her creativity and she feels best when combining nature’s raw elements. Since entering the world of felting, Nan’s unique felted pieces have won awards during the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, Southeastern Animal Fiber Festival and Fall Fiber Festival of Virginia. She also teaches felting workshops for children and adults. Nan lives in Unionville, Virginia, with husband Steve, llamas, and canine friend Roscoe.

Barbara Tafuni has been weaving for over twenty years. She has taken weaving classes from Joanne Hall and Norma Smayda at John C. Campbell school in NC. The past two years she has taken advanced weaving classes at JMU from Barbara Lewis. Barbara Tafuni has experimented with various types of weaving and would like to re-introduce you (or instruct you for your first time on the Inkle loom) to the versatility of Inkle weaving at the Fall Fiber Festival at Montpelier.

Ann Walden Brown did ‘write the book’ on making felted rugs and chair pads. We are lucky to have her come to our festival.

Paula Veldhuis De Broeck has been a tatter for the past 30 years having learned to shuttle tat from her 90 year old great-auntie who relayed many stories of a gentle time.  She has taught tatting several times at the Fall Fiber Festival and the Sedalia Spring Festival.
